Our Age of Bearblog is Collapsing

lol nah

Just wanted an excuse to post that.

The rest of this is poorly written stream-of-consciousslop :D Wanted to put that out there. Not much effort was made in cleaning this shit up, other than basic spelling and grammar tweaks. Proceed with caution. I do not usually write this bad lol.

That said, I am fully aware that Herman's housing is more of an apartment than a house. But that doesn't make it any less of a home. I have always respected one unwritten rule (written in my mind, by me and, before now, only known to me) - Herman's law :D

I just try not to be a dick while using this site. That's it. Well, that's not true. I try to not be a dick and almost not go too far even if I'm not being malicious. There are several probably not fit for bearblog post that I've been like "man, I don't wanna ruin the vibe with this serious, uncomfortable shit." Like, some I cannot tell you how hard it is for me not to just accidentally be cringe. But I'm also fuckin' autistic (like legit). It is how it is. You, as an functioning, ultra-masking autist, have the responsibility of making sure your 'tism doesn't collide with anyone's sensibilities.

Sidenote: I do not have insane political views imo. I know some people have that anxiety when reading blogs like "this person is cool but do they have terrible opinions." I mean, I don't vote. idc. sorry you had to read my stream of consciousness nonsense about random trauma from time to time. Just glad I'm not wearing a medallion rn tbh.

Yo, sorry to ramble. Bearblog is a good platform. It is still a platform, but it's a platform with several eject buttons and a very practical, nice host. Idk of many other platforms that where you can just export all of your stuff, reformat it with some community tools, and move it to a new host. You can't do that with a facebook. Imagine renting and they throw out all of your shit instead of letting you leave with it. That's what other sites feel like. This is a luxury apartment, they don't do that low rent shit that here. There's a "give me my shit" button directly on the dash if you ever need it. And there are a ton of services, hosts and platforms that support markdown/html/css mishmashes.

Sidenote #2 sorry for not interacting much. Like, I have never spoken to Herman (unless he really did call into autism tonight 👀) or really emailed too many ppl from here (extreme anxiety with conversations, ect). ....I'll admit that it is weird referencing people you've never directly interacted with and inferring their entire personality based on blog posts they've made. Still working on this.

Me trying to shoehorn random stuff into this post:

I feel like a lot of discovery feed drama could be solved with making page tags work globally. Obviously, I don't want bear to curate tags or anything. Maybe just like a box where you put in a tag, hit enter, and it adds it to the list of posts with those tags to display. I know the bear way of doing this would be forking vore or mire**, modifying them to have a tag search, removing some of the extras, then adding bear's discovery rss with a thing to parse through posts and get the tags. Seems pretty doable, but it'd be cool if it was a global feature implemented in a bearblog kinda way. Also, my wife will murder me if I do another long ass project instead of looking for a job. Esp after that kanji shit lol.

Idk. Still not a huge fan of the block function. You'll have people that'll rack up like 300 or more entries on their block list lol. Sometimes I think it's easier to cut people out than it is to discover new people here. Not that I don't still find great stuff on the discovery feed, I just want to be able to have exclusively funny animal posts show up from time to time.

Also, there's a good amount of heavy posts on the discovery feed that just sneak up on you. Like, you'll be minding your own business and then BOOM you'll be reading about the sweetest person losing the love of their life and be crying. I love that you can post shit like that, I really, really, really do. You can just fuckin grieve here, it's beautiful. Griefposting helped me get over losing Rubix (10yr baby kitty) to very unexpected cancer last year. I will always be grateful that this outlet exists. That said, there are times where people may not want to see discovery posts like that. What do you do? Block the grieving person? My scenario is this: you are in a bad place and want to consume only lighthearted content. You check the pokemon tag on bear and cool pokemon posts show up sequentially.

Idk where to fit this, but rootr.ing is fucking awesome.

This is also cool. If I had a business, I'd print out posts for the waiting area and call it the discovery feed.

Sorry, idk what I'm getting at lol. I'm p high and putting off setting up a gotosocial for some funsies. Gonna quit before I start saying shit like "Isn't it weird that google kicked appen to the curb in 2024 and then immediately made that deal with reddit for their data so they could get by with as few search engine raters as possible. The only thing stopping them from being a good search engine again is a few awkward calls to contracts and some humble pie. AI bros will eliminate human labor, have AI do a worse buggy job, then continue to use AI, even if it costs 2x what the humans did. This is progress."

you should watch The Odyssey (2026) on mute btw. it's worth a watch. Great cinematography, great acting, cringey man who has seen too many sea people docs on youtube dialog.

tl;dr: BRAVO, NOLAN I LOVE YOU, ONLY SHOOTIN STAAAAARS BREAK THE MOOOL--E-OLD
**I feel really bad for not using vore or mire as often as I should
